Since
a young age I have been fascinated by the natural world. During
my high school years I would learn the theoretical side of biology
at school and natural history in my own time. I went on to study
Zoology at the University of Southampton, England, having taken
a gap year, which I used to gain practical experience of marine
biology in the field. My studies at Southampton were focused
on ecological and whole organism studies rather than molecular
based. This helped me focus even further for my coursework-based
masters in the field of Ecology and Evolution at the University
of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. This was primarily marine
based to which I was able to apply the broad based ecological
theory I learned at Southampton. I am currently working on the
research proposal for my PhD for which I intend to return in
mid 2006 to the University of Queensland. I will be studying
the impact of coral bleaching on the biodiversity of the reef,
this would prove critical if current predictions of global climate
change come to fruition.
